Our standard
Spotter should work for everyone who spends time outside, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, zoom, or reduced motion. This website is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. The iPhone and Android apps are held to the same standard.
How we check it
- Automated axe-core checks on every page template, at desktop and phone sizes.
- A keyboard-only pass: every link and control can be reached, and focus is always visible.
- Text and controls meet AA contrast; links are underlined, not marked by colour alone.
- Pages reflow to a 320 px wide screen without sideways scrolling.
- Animation is turned off when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Buttons, menu controls and navigation links are at least 44 px tall.
Known limitations
- Many species photos come from Wikimedia Commons and iNaturalist. Their descriptions name the species, but they do not describe every field mark shown in the photo. The text of each guide covers those features.
- The App Store and Google Play pages we link to are run by Apple and Google, and we can’t change how they work.
Report a barrier
If something on this site or in the app gets in your way, email dgauger@realbluesoftware.com. Tell us the page or screen, what you were trying to do, and the device or assistive technology you use. A real person reads every message, and we’ll fix what we can.
